The Road to Martial Arts Mastery

The Five Forms to Black is comprised of 5 forms that when learned and practiced will give you the base elements, knowledge and abilities of a First Degree Balck Belt. These forms will also give you the strength, health, flexibility, power and speed necessary to become and grow a dynamic Martial Artist in my association. View Sample Video Here

5 Forms Explained

I. GOM GONG KUEN-THE HARD DIAMOND

This first form will develop your arm strength, leg strength and flexibility. There is no better way to develop the power you need than by using this form along with the rest of my Black Belt program. The motions of this form also allow you to develop techniques that are effective, devastating and practical to say the least. This fast, simple form will develop power, strength and the basics for the next forms in the system

II. SI PING KUEN-THE 8 BRIDGES

Another powerful and deadly form used to develop and maintain, balance, posture, strength and speed. These forms are undeniable in their ability to make you a devastating martial artist. This form is my personal favorite and I practice it long and hard because it has afforded me such great longevity in the arts. If you use this form correctly, it will serve you well in all that you do in the arts. Do not let its simplicity and basic nature fool you. This form is a winner!

III BUNGI-THE BOOK SET

The Book Set as taught by Grandmaster Parker and initiated by Grandmaster James Wing Woo has been lost for many years. I teach this form in my seminars and Black Belt System because it is very necessary to the development of every artist who truly wishes to master the elements of strength and power. Remember, this form has been taught for the last 30 plus years to students who have developed power, precision, and strength in their forms, techniques and fighting style. Sadly, in almost every situation I have seen this form, it has been incorrect. Here is your opportunity to see this form done properly and to truly receive the benefits of what this motion can and will do for you. Recently others have come out with their versions of this form after having seen tapes and dvds of mine. Again, I am sorry to say that they are still doing it wrong.

IV. GUN GI KUEN-DEPRESSING THE TIGER

Next, we come to the Gung Gi form. This ancient form has been the trademark of many current stylists who compete in tournaments and challenges. Its beauty is complete and when done properly, this stand alone form is one of the most effective and powerful forms around. This is also the lead in to our final form and it is also the beginning of your endurance and spiritual training. What I mean by that is, now that you have developed power and strength, you can develop your breathing, balance, endurance, and spirit by using the energy and chi that are natural extensions of doing this form properly. You have to move past the physical here and begin to understand the reason behind your movement. You must begin to realize the ‘Now’ of what you are doing, mindless of the how, when and where. This is the development of your ‘internal senses’ and the real meat behind the ideas of this incredible system.

V. THE TIGER AND CRANE

This form is one of the most important forms ever created to develop, build, and maintain explosive power, dynamic basics and flexibility. This long form is an ancient form that has been changed from generation to generation and system to system. However, the basic tenets of this form are still intact. By using this form you will develop the understanding of strikes, blocks, kicks, punches and how they work together with footwork, balance, strength and more. I choose this form to finish the program and once you learn it, you too will understand why. Again, this is another of the forms that has been mis-interpreted, mis-used and taught incorrectly. In fact, until recently most practitioners were only doing half of the form. I know see others coming out with their ‘lost’ art ending to this form. Please, do not be fooled and do not waste your time with what is out there that is not true and not correct. This is the form as it was meant to be done, practiced, learned and taught.

To all of you, I hope you understand why I suggest that you learn these forms as a method for life long training and success in health and the arts. There are many fighters whose careers lasted only as long as they could fight. What I suggest is that by learning this system (a system that has given me longevity and success far into my sixties when many of my contemporaries can barely walk), you will develop your body, mind and spirit simultaneously. I am not against fighting, sparring, wrestling or ju jit su. What I am against is not training and preparing for the long haul. Statistics show that the average man has a total of 3.5 fights in his or her lifetime with two of these fights taking place in grammar or high school. Is this what you are training for? My system of self-defense is also a system of self-awareness, self protection and self reliance. My system is a system of basics. Strip away everything except the essence of a thing and what is left? The basics. In what form is a thing most pure? In its’ basic form. This is what I offer to you. Thank you. Good luck to you all. Grandmaster James Ibrao
