Congratulaions to Richard O. McKennon for obtaining his new rank under the 5 Forms System. Richard is successful in a number of others systems and I am proud to be a part of his heritage. Richard is a professional who operates his own Law Practice. (I would also like to mention the great production value of his testing video and his daughter’s great impact on that,) I am very gratified to say that he is a published author and a consumate professional from what I can see. We met at the Gathering of Eagles and I am glad that we did. I am proud to have him share in this great method of training and longevity. In 1979 Richard O. McKennon began his martial arts studies at the American Kenpo Karate dojo in Wichita Falls, Texas. His instruction was at the direction of David L. Williams and Mike Browning. Both Sensei Williams and Sensei Browning developed a martial arts curriculum that incorporated the full Tracy's Kenpo system and forms from both Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan. It was a very full curriculum and required a great deal of study and training. In was in this highly complex and rigorous system that Mr. McKennon was granted his first black belt. During his training at American Kenpo Karate, Mr. McKennon participated in more than sixty martial arts tournaments and won many awards including Texas state titles in both forms and kumite, through that participation. Subsequently, after receiving his 2nd degree Black Belt in Kenpo and during his college and law school education, Mr. McKennon continued his Kenpo training and received his 1st Dan in Shotokan from Sensei Richard North. Thereafter he has achieved the rank of 2nd Dan in Shotokan. He has trained with Master Juan Galvan and Master Richard Shoffett. He has also obtained a 1st Dan in Hanbo Jitsu under the guidance of Master Tadashi Tsuminami. During the past 15 years Mr. McKennon has been involved in the development of Bushi No Te Kenpokan as a separate and distinct curriculum for martial art training. Through the assistance and input of a number of highly experienced martial artists this curriculum has been developed with a focus on the principles of Evasion, Striking and Control. The system incorporates 350 Kenpo techniques, 35 forms from the Kenpo tradition, Shotokan and some that are unique to the Bushi No Te Kenpokan Martial Arts Training Program.
